FAQs

If these don't answer your questions, please send me an email!

  • What about vaccinations?

We need to have vaccination records for all Active Dog clients, which should include Distemper, Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies.

Additionally, clients are responsible for maintaining their dogs’ flea and tick treatments and ensuring they are registered in their local area.

  • How does my doggo join the pack?

We require a pup meet and greet.  During this time, we look for the following:

    1. Positive and appropriate interactions with dogs

    2. Positive and appropriate interactions with humans

    3. Strong leash manners

    4. Basic obedience training

    5. Over 10 months old

No dog is perfect, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions about your pup’s suitability! We also offer private hikes for dogs who are still developing these skills.

  • What about bad weather?

We go out in all weather conditions unless it's unsafe for your pup. If we need to cancel due to extreme weather, heat, or cold, we’ll inform you, but we can still take your dog out for a potty break.

  • How long will my doggo be gone?

Your dog(s) will participate in the following types of activities, each with estimated durations:

    - **Pack/Private Hike:** Approximately **1.5 hours**

    - **Athletic Runs** Approximately **.5 hours**

    - **Let Outs and Neighborhood Walks:** .25 to .5 hours

Depending on the pickup/drop-off route, adventure type, and location, your dog(s) could be out adventuring with us for anywhere from **.25 to 4 hours**. If you require an estimated time for a specific activity or adventure, the hiker will provide one upon request.

  • What does my doggo need to bring?

We ask that all pups wear their tags for safety and liability during their adventures.

Please also bring any harnesses or collars your pup needs for hiking.

We provide healthy treats, toys, water, and leashes.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

We kindly ask for 24 hours’ notice.  If you cancel within 24 hours of the hike, we will charge half.  If we do not receive the cancellation notice at least three hours before pick-up or  we arrive to pick up your pup and are unable to gain access for any reason, we will need to charge the full price .

  • What are the pack sizes?

Currently, we require a minimum of two and a maximum of four dogs. As we expand, we plan to increase the pack size to six.

  • How do I pay?

You will be invoiced weekly.  For your convenience, we accept Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and Zelle.

  • Do you hike on Weekends, Christmas, and Thanksgiving?

Yes, per request.  The charge will be  $10 more, per pet, for walks and let outs and $20 for all hikes, per appointment.

  • Can my doggo go on pack hikes without being spayed or neutered?

All pack hike participants must be spayed or neutered. We can arrange a private hike for dogs that are not spayed or neutered.

  • What if my dog gets injured while hiking with an active dog staff member?

We are CPR and First Aid certified and will assess any situation to ensure appropriate action is taken. If your dog experiences a serious injury, we will notify you right away. While such incidents are uncommon, they can occur. If your dog injures itself, the owner is responsible for any related medical costs. If one dog injures another, we expect the owner of the dog that caused the injury to cover the expenses.  The fault will be based on the hiker's discretion.

  • Do you offer gift cards?

If you would like to buy a gift card, contact us directly and we can add a credit to the account for you.  We will notify the recipient and let them know who sent them the credit.

  • How late can I book a hike?

Hikes need to be booked at least 3 hours prior to the beginning of the hike, so we can schedule a hike leader.

  • Do you require anything from a Veterinarian?

If medication administration is requested or if a pet requires care following surgery, for weight management, chronic conditions, or other special needs, Barks and Recreation LLC requires written instructions or protocols from the veterinarian. This includes medication in the original prescription bottle with clear dosage and administration guidelines, as well as any additional special instructions necessary for proper care. By requesting these services, the client agrees to hold Barks and Recreation LLC harmless and releases it from any liability in the event of an adverse reaction or incident.
